-Its fearful to see or touch the death so the old dead is carried by the young living up the mountain to a tomb -He is a pollution and a tear in the fabric of life as the dead -They cast something from the mountain-They have a death blanket that is always carried and its only worn on the last night and then taken back to the house -Cold death makes life more worth it -Dance the death blanket with pouring out of wishes- movement of life and death- he is a spirit but they keep life close to him so he is not alone and never forgotten -Ancestors name do not end -They throw cotton on the blanket to soak up sacrifice and the living take care of the dead -They can see their heavan- the sun shines on the dead above us- they move up the cliff as they get older (start in the lowest cliff houses and move up to the highest houses when they get old) -A cycle- compared to the wind – death is the wind of life-With each death they lose their way and the village is lost-Blind prophet – gave info about all life in the form of song- a song that must be sung -Lots of singing, dancing and rhythm -Dance on the third night and they no longer mourn- passage of death to spirits -Shoot guns during the dancing and singing ceremony -The song ends and the spirit of the uncle looks out to the plains and soon he will go out there as an ancestors as a bush which is the source of all being -There is all power in the bush- too much power for any man to live there -Sometimes they need the power- dawn of uncles spirit was the time and so they used masks -The Damah masks happens every 12 years – uncle joined 12 years of the debt -The bush gave them the masks as a way for the power of the bush to come into the village so they can bring harmony back after death and only the masks and dance can bring it back -Last celebration for what life was for the spirit of the ancestors -Masks are the things that matter in life (tears and laughter) -Death is losing- this is life -Death will come but he is not a dancer with me today- when it comes I will know the dance and dance it well -May god pay you with rain and millet – him thanking his village -Life is as layered like the rock- it is only precious because of death so acquaint yourself with it
