The homes are very cartoon like and misshapen, exaggerated to bring out the gothic features. While examining Burton’s films, one might notice the way he uses lighting. Burton will often use brightly colored lighting in contrast to his dark scenes/sets to add a dramatic effect. These pops of bright colored light contributes to symbolism within the film, rather it is used to reflect the emotions of a character, set a certain tone in the scene or simply just to break up an otherwise constant gloomy background. In contrast to this common lighten effect, Burton has also been involved in quite a few Disney productions, obviously very different from his current style. Disney also has a specific style of being rather light, bright and cheery visuals. Needless to say that when working for, Burton realized that it really wasn’t right for him. A Burton film almost guarantees a misunderstood and usually eccentric character the has been outcast from society, no one understands them. Ichabod Crane (portrayed by Johnny Deep) in Tim Burton’s Sleepy Hollow is a perfect example of this type of character. Ichabod can be described as nothing short of being a “nerd”. He is portrayed as a man of logic, reason and science, which is a major contributing factor as to why he doesn’t fit in very well and irritates most of the police department. Living in a world that is grim and gloomy, without proper trails and evidence. Many people in Ichabod’s town are harshly punished for committing petty crimes,
