Virtual project team types and impact on the project success. The virtual team concept came into existence in the early 1990’s when several united states multinational together with their affiliates began the implementation of dispersed teams with an intention of integrating most of their work practices. Since that time, an increased rate of globalization together with the rapid improvement in communication technology has led to the development of when it comes to the use of virtual teams among different groups. Most of the virtual team types are developed as a result of virtual team attributes that is perfectly defined form various sources. There are various key themes that are linked to virtual project teams, they mainly include the following; -temporal dispersion -Geographic dispersion -communication technology

20 CHALLENGES OF GLOBAL VIRTUAL PROJECTS -Team membership -Politics In relation to the above mentioned themes, classification of the virtual team attributes can be done as either hard or soft. Moreover, hard attributes are used to come up with a perfect description of the geographical dispersion of any team and cannot therefore be changed by any manager. On the other hand, soft attributes majorly include various factors like the expertise attained by all the team members. Steps of virtual projects There are various steps that are associated with virtual teams, most of the organizations and individuals tend to follow all these steps in order to come up with appropriate solutions. The following are some of the steps that are known to be related to various virtual projects that are normally set up with an intention of performing a certain duty; (1) Forming the team There is the need of an individual to form the required team that is able to deliver what is needed within a certain period. Appropriate team will always lead to success. (2) Communicate the vision There is the need for the project leader to come out clearly and communicate what the vision of the project entails and how it is capable of coming up with several positive outcomes when implemented in an appropriate manner. (3) Develop mission statement

21 CHALLENGES OF GLOBAL VIRTUAL PROJECTS One is required to develop a mission statement that can clearly define where the project is going and what it is entailed to do in order to meet the required outcome. Moreover, the mission needs to be relevant to the purpose of the project. (4) Definition of goals The goals of the project should be outlined and defined clearly in an appropriate manner that can be easily understood by various people. (5) Develop norms Norms should be developed in relation to the purpose of the project in order to provide an appropriate guidance to all the team members thereby ensuring that they are on the good side.
