Work Ethic Grading Scale:
3 = Exceeds Expectations
2 = Meets Expectations
1 = Needs Improvement
0 = Unacceptable
Software issues - I cannot grade something I cannot open. Remember that you have
access to Microsoft Office for FREE via your Southern Crescent student account. Normal
weather (thunderstorms and strong winds), work commitments (double-shifts, night-shifts,
and overtime), travel/vacation plans, moving plans, and normal life/personal
events are NOT valid excuses for submitting late work. Plan for things to go wrong, start

early in the week when possible, and get your work done early. Always have a back-up plan
in place!
VALID excuses for submitting late work include: documented medical emergencies or
hospitalizations, family emergencies, and/or military deployments; Blackboard Server
outages; or natural disasters (including COVID issues). Again, you are required to email
your instructor as soon as you are able to do so with the complete information about your
valid excuse. Also, you are required to provide documentation at the time of this request. If
you receive approval for an extension, you are required to complete the work according to
the new timeline set by your instructor.

Finally, be aware that if you submit late work, then it will obviously take me longer to
return grade feedback to you. I will get to your assignments at my earliest
convenience, since your work was not submitted on time.
Academic Honesty Statement
Cheating and plagiarism are strictly prohibited in this and all classes at SCTC. Cheating includes any
attempt to defraud, deceive or mislead the instructor in arriving at an honest grade assessment.
Plagiarism is a form of cheating that involves presenting as one’s own the ideas or work of another. First
offenders will receive zero points for the exam or paper in question, and second offenders will be
removed from the course and given an F.
Southern Crescent Technical College expects students, faculty, and staff to conduct themselves with
honesty and academic integrity. The college promotes and expects all members of the college community
to conduct themselves professionally and with intellectual integrity. Academic integrity is an integral part of
the learning environment. Any infraction of this policy is detrimental to the students’ education and the
integrity of the college. Cases of academic dishonesty that are strictly forbidden include:
 Plagiarizing any assignment or part of an assignment. Plagiarizing means to use someone else’s
ideas or words as one’s own, without giving appropriate credit using quotation marks if necessary,
and citing the source(s).
 Copying and submitting another’s work as one’s own.
 Using unauthorized notes or equipment (programmable calculator, pda, cell phone, etc.) during
an examination.
