Let's split the affirmation and try to better analyze it first, then all together and see myfinal conclusions. First, let's see if Impressionism may be considered the first modernart style. If we are looking chronologically on how the new artistic movementsborn we can say that the Impressionism wasn't the first because it comes after theRealism which may be true that latter wasn't so famous as the Impressionism artbutwas the first that rejected the Romanticism and the first that paint life andsituations as they were. The first movement that brings new and fresh ideas into artand the first with some characteristics that were later accepted by modern art. Now,
moving to the second affirmation lets see if can be considered the true modern artstyle. As we could see from past weeks, art is made to be admired, to send a message,to emotion through the use of colors, expression, etc. Realism art was done to justdescribe and show reality without giving anything more to the viewer and for thisreason, a more "complete" art movement was born that can be considered a trulymodern art style, which is the Impressionism. In fact, according to Otis College (n.d.),"Realism is what we see, Impressionism is how we see it". Taking, for example, theRealism work of art entitled "The Stone Breakers" (1849) by Gustave Courbet we cansee how easy and clear to the viewer's eyes is what we see - two peasants thatare breaking the rocks. We don't see their faces and the painting didn't emotion whenlooking at it because is simple shows an image of people in their social setting.Another work of Realism is "A Burial at Ornans" (1849-50) by Gustave Courbetwhere we have shown part of real life without many colors and with her bad and goodside, with her joy and sadness...simple as it is (Gersh-Nesic, n.d.).---The Stone Breakers by Gustave Courbet---
---A Burial at Ornans by Gustave Courbet---On the other side, the Impressionism style gives us more. For example, the firstpainting from where the Impressionism started, I'm speaking about the paintingentitled "Impression Sunrise" (1872) by Claude Monet. Here we see a beautiful redsun and two small rowboats, we see from the use of the colors the beautifulrepresentation of the port of Le Havre. The use of colors is something that capturesour eyes. We can see other beautiful Impressionism work of arts where we haveshown the people lifestyles, relaxing, etc. Example of these works of arts are "Womenin the Garden" (1866) by Claude Monet, "A Sunday on La Grande Jatte" (1884) byGeorges Seurat. All beautiful work of arts that "include relatively small, thin, yetvisible brush strokes, open composition, emphasis on the accurate depiction of light inits changing qualities" (Saylor Foundation, n.d., para 2) that gives us the idea of thenew modern life and which techniques were widely accepted also in the official Salonas the new way to create modern art.
