Implementation of Strategy
Organizational Leadership 11The team will utilize the Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) Model for process improvement. During the planning phase, the Nurse Manager, Director of Clinical Education, and the Lead Staff Nurse will collect evidence-based practice research that specifically relates to the involvement of patients and family in the interview process. Once the data is compiled and reviewed by these three individuals, it will be presented to the Manager of Human Resources to determine if any legal implications are apparent that could potentially jeopardize the entire process. The next step would be to select a single unit/department to become the pilot/test group, with their Nurse Manager becoming the leader of their team. The Lead Staff Nurse will be responsible for identifying potential candidates from the pool of patient and family members in the electronic health record database. The Lead Staff Nurse will then seek the assistance of the Manager of Human Resources to draft and disseminate a letter to these potential candidates to gauge their interest in the proposed project. The Manager of HR will also be tasked with the collection of the baseline data on turnover rates. As noted earlier, the management will take part in the pre-survey to determine the satisfaction of the current interview process. When at least tenpositive responses are received back from the potential candidates, they will be asked to meet to discuss the process and required level of involvement in the team. During this time ambassador interview questions will be discussed and developed. Each team member will be present at this integral meeting and ambassadors will be chosen by team consensus with cultural diversity beinga huge determinant. The Nurse and HR Managers will work collaboratively to identify upcoming interviews and ensure patient and family members are included in attendance. The Directors of both Human Resources and Clinical Education will also continuously monitor and review the process to determine if any necessary changes are warranted. After the first ten interviews have successfully been completed, surveys will be supplied to the interview
Organizational Leadership 12candidates to compare their satisfaction with our interview process as opposed to previous interview situations. Management will then complete their post-surveys to determine if scores have improved. This will then lead into the next phase, in which all of the responses from each specific survey are reviewed and feedback is also solicited from the Ambassadors. This will allow the team to determine if the pilot was successful and whether or not changes are required. Announcement of the change to all hiring managers will be the next step, along with expansion of the improvement project hospital-wide. This will cause the PDSA cycle to begin again. After three months of implementing this new strategy, the HR Manager will once again compile turnover rates for comparison to the baseline data. The Nurse Manager will also re-evaluate the PFCC Tool to assess for improvement (Roussel, Harris, & Thomas, 2016).
