Communication with patients can be improved and patient care enhanced when healthcare providers bridge the divide between the culture of medicine and the beliefs and practices that make up a patient's' value system [ CITATION Eri16 \l 1033 ] .

A person who has little in common with you cannot adequately advocate for your benefit. Otherwise, you might as well have a history teacher in charge of advanced algebra [ CITATION Eri16 \l 1033 ] . The voice of nursing in the debate If you have Nurses who understand their patient’s culture, environment, food, customs, religious views, etc., they can provide their patients with ultimate care [ CITATION Eri16 \l 1033 ] . Every healthcare experience provides an opportunity to have a positive effect on a patient’s health. Healthcare providers can maximize this potential by learning more about patients' cultures [ CITATION Eri16 \l 1033 ] . In doing so, they are practicing cultural competency or cultural awareness and sensitivity [ CITATION Eri16 \l 1033 ] . Nurses should be full partners, with physicians and other health professionals, in redesigning health care in the United States [ CITATION Nur11 \l 1033 ] . More than ever, nurses are present in every care environment and have a specific role in developing policy. The association of medicine’s 2010 study the Future of healthcare: Leading effect, Advancing Health, recognized the value of the activity and called for nurses to bring position in improving the quality of healthcare [ CITATION Nur11 \l 1033 ] . Through policy work, nurses can and should influence practice standards and processes to assure quality of care. Nurses who influence policy help shape the care that will be provided today and tomorrow. Policies also impact resource allocation to support delivery of healthcare [ CITATION She16 \l 1033 ] . B2. POLITICS, POLICY, AND GLOBAL HEALTH11 This proposed policy is a positive start to addressing minority nursing and inequality in healthcare. This policy if approved would do more to protect the minority nurses and the patients care. It could also support their access to higher education, health services, and their involvement government. However, the lack of government resources and regulation could pose great challenges to the execution of this policy. Minority nurses should also take assistance for the nurses as it relates to their medical and psychosocial assistance.
