increase in light physical activity overall is vital for the older population with chronic conditions. Overall, the focus cannot stand on the step count solely because it has been shown not to be a true indication of changes in physical activity. This is because the number of steps does not indicate the details of the intensity of the activity while also omitting any activities that are not related to walking. The SWA accelerometer band that was utilized throughout this study was ultimately found to be a much better and accurate device for measuring and estimating energy expenditure for activities. Upon analyzing this data from the SWA and the relationship between increase in step count and physical activity further it was observed that the increase in steps dramatically occurred during the light intensity phase. Therefore, this confirms that participating in an exercise rehabilitation program can increase the daily physical activity but more so during light intensity levels that coordinate with daily living activities. According to Mann et al. (2012), the approach of focusing on reducing sedentary time while increasing physical activity first in the low intensity level could be much more beneficial for those with cardiopulmonary disorders. The reasoning behind this is because it will be more feasible for an individual going from being inactive to active while also ensuring that these changes become habitual and routine to ensure sustainable results. Another important take away and observation from this research study is that even though an increase in exercise capacity and daily physical activity occurred this did not result in finding a significant or if any correlation between the two. As a participant in the program increased their exercise capacity that did not necessarily result in them having a more active lifestyle as this has been shown in present day findings. For this type of change to possibly

In this study there were some limitations that included the sample size which was small, there was no control group, and variations between the location settings where the program occurred. In addition, the age of the subjects should have been more varied to obtain and analyze any differences between results of various age groups. By increasing the sample size this would allow the study to have more of an advantage and ability to evaluate the sample more by dividing them into more groups based upon varying activities. Albeit, the clinical implications from this study do give value to having patient go through a physical assessment before entering into any exercise rehabilitation program. This will allow the supervising clinician to evaluate the individual’s capability so that there is a thorough understanding of their current physical activity so that an appropriate program can be developed specifically for them to ensure long-term physical activity compliance. By doing so, a more achievable goal can be reached without

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
