access to its networks to traffic of specific types and traffic coming from the Web servers. Other components of security include virus checkers, encryption, and intrusion detection systems. organization’s accounting system with another system such as inventory management. This also includes integration with the business systems of partners like shipping companies, banks, and payment processors. The e-business must be able to provide these systems with the information they need in a format the business team can read and process. Steps need to be taken to ensure that all transactions are completed and that any failed transactions can be resolved so that updates are completed. Middleware is the technology that fulfills these needs. It is the core of the three-tiered architecture of e-business and allows the e-business to abstract the details of processing to this layer. The middleware software usually comes with a number of preconfigured connectors, or interfaces, that allow it to speak to common accounting and business systems in their own format. It handles communications between systems, updates, and roll back or roll forward of failed transmissions. Staffing Once a decision is made to move to e-business, the information technology group of the organization needs to assess the skills and abilities of its staff. Does the staff have the ability to support e-business technologies including security? Even though some aspects of e-business can be outsourced, the organization will still need to support security and internal links to existing systems. To understand staffing needs, the information technology group needs to map existing skills and staff to the proposed e-business technical architecture and the parts that the organization plans to support. Once that is done, a gap analysis can be done, and the e-business can begin to recruit and hire needed staff. Activity Activity: E-Buisiness Technical Implementation You are a consultant at an e-business consulting company. Your current customer who owns a brick and mortar music store, George Johansen, is just starting an online business; he is opening an online music store. George needs to get the word out about the new addition to his business. Being an e- business novice, George needs you to walk him through the steps and issues involved in marketing and advertising. Activity 1: George is about to launch his e-business. Give him some examples how he can set up an advertising campaign. The model answer is the following: George might want to inform all of his existing customers and give them an incentive to use the e- business site. 1. The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
