role in the development, delivery and quality assurance of ophthalmology training
across the Deanery by:
Negotiating and leading on a strategy for ophthalmology specialty training
in the Deanery in line with The Royal College of Ophthalmologists’ policy
and national guidelines
Supporting and leading the transition to Modernising Medical Careers
(MMC)
Ensuring that the provision of ophthalmology education and training is of a
consistently high quality across the Deanery and that regular quality
monitoring takes place
Coordinating quality monitoring processes according to PMETB
requirements and implementing PMETB standards and recommendations
Supporting the implementation of the ophthalmology curricula, both the
HST curriculum and new OST curriculum
Developing the structure and function of the Board of Ophthalmology
Developing the working relationship between the Board and the local
Specialist Training Committee(s) in ophthalmology where these exist
separately from the Board.
Contributing to the selection and appointment processes of both trainees
and educators
Consulting and informing colleagues and providing support and advice to
trainees
Ensuring that a network of communication exists between the Deanery
and the College and supporting the Deanery in its communications with
PMETB
To develop and oversee standardised quality control systems on which
quality assurance programmes depend.
This will involve working with The
Royal College of Ophthalmologists and PMETB as required, in particular
to ensure training standards in ophthalmology meet the standards set out
