started to get my application packet ready for approval. I was just ready to start my journey in nursing school. I feel like I had wasted enough time trying to get here. 2. How has your life changed as a result of starting this nursing program? It has definitely become a lot more stressful since starting this nursing program. I’ve really had to learn how to time manage and stay on top of my work. Although school work is very important I also have to make sure I spend time with my family and friends and always remember to practice self care. Good grades are important but so is good health. 3. How has your family life changed? I don’t think it has changed that dramatically. If anything they just miss me a little more but are proud that I’m working hard in my nursing program. I feel that I’ve become a little more vocal about my feelings, not in a bad angry way, but just being more honest and letting them know when I’m stressed out. 4. How are family members coping with you in this nursing program? My family has been a great support system for me and luckily they have been very understanding about my new hectic schedule. 5. Are your family members supportive of your participation in this nursing program? My family is absolutely thrilled that I am in this nursing program. My mom couldn't be more proud. She’s always asking me to buy her APU Nursing merchandise so she can flaunt it around. 6. How has nursing school interfered with or helped you accomplish your developmental tasks? My boyfriend and I are in our last two years of college and it’s a very stressful time for the both of us. We are also in a long distance relationship but this program has actually put a lot of things into perspective for me. He has really been there for me through all the mental breakdowns, even though it’s only my first semester, and this program has showed me just how much I love this man. It’s made me more comfortable with the idea of same day marrying him. As for work, I had to quit my clinical job but luckily for me my parents have their own construction and landscaping

business and I can go work with them whenever I can. It really is a humbling experiencing because nursing is a tough job but making concrete under the hot sun is in a league of its own. 7. How has your self-esteem been threatened or challenged by this situation? Honestly my self esteem has been at an all time low since starting the program. I don’t know if it’s my anxiety and depression getting triggered by a new experience but something is definitely not right. I’ve also suffered with an eating disorder since I have fifteen years old and my self esteem is something that I have always struggled with. It’s been a little over a year now since I have finally stopped my eating disorder habit but that doesn’t mean that the emotional components to it have subsided. 8. How has your body image changed? I feel even worse than before. I can't help but feel fat and because of my eating disorder I had always struggled with my weight and body image. Everyone has been joking about how you gain thirty pounds while in nursing school but for me that’s not a joke. It made me want to cry when I first heard it and I instantly got defensive when people would mention it again. I have already gained some weight while being in the program and it honestly scares me to gain more.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
