B lockinterruptibly locks the lock unless the thread

This preview shows page 2 - 3 out of 3 pages.

b. lockInterruptibly() – locks the Lock unless the thread calling the method has been interrupted. Additionally, if a thread is blocking waiting to lock the Lock via this method, and it is iinterrupted, it exits this method calls. c. tryLock() – attempts to lock the Lock instance immediately. It returns true with locking succeeds, false if Lock is already locked. This method never blocks. d. tryLock(long timeout, TimeUnit timeUnit) – works like the tryLock() method, except it waits up the given timeout before giving up trying to lock the Lock.

e. unlock() – unlocks the Lock instance. Typically, a Lock implementation will only allow the thread that has locked the Lock to call this method. Other threads calling this method may result in an unchecked exception. (RuntimeException) 6. The keyword “synchronized” enables a simple strategy for preventing thread interference and memory consistency errors. If an object is visible to more than one thread, all reads or writes to that object’s variables are done through synchronized methods. 7. When the JVM encounters a wait() call, the thread releases its lock on this object and waits until another thread notifies it to wake up through a call to either notify() or notifyAll(). After the thread is awakened, it has to regain the lock on this object before it can resume executing. 8. Need to be in a synchronized block in order for wait() call to work.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
