GAP ASSESSMENT Cluster number and name: HC3 4.1 Use information on the hospitality industry Units of competency: SITHIND002 Source and use information on the hospitality industry Student’s ID: Assessor’s name: Instructions to students It is very important that employees of hospitality establishments are able to work with others, communicate well, inform and discuss together about workplace activities and duties and are able to work in a team environment. Read the scenario and complete the activities. Your assessor will observe how you engage with the group and contribute to the discussions. Scenario You are a manager responsible and managing a recreation center. Bill phoned your center to organise a fundraiser function to raise money for the local football club. The function will be a sit down dinner with a three-course meal; black tie and it will also involve a celebrity auction and music. Bill was also very happy to announce that he managed to obtain some celebrity memorabilia for the auction, which will be auctioned after dinner plus Bill had confirmation from a celebrity who is available on the night to attend the function. Bill has requested a sit-down dinner with entertainment. Bill has requested to search for a good DJ, caterers to cater for international cuisine and service staff for the function. Bill has requested you to find the information and Bill will be meeting you in a fortnight to discuss what sources of information you have found. Due to the number of guests, you have to also contact hiring service for additional furniture for the function. 2.1. From your discussion list four (4) type of information that you would be required to obtain to help you plan for this function to ensure that it is well resourced. ( Short ) 1) SET A GOAL FOR THE EVENT: define with your team what will be the purpose of the event. Obviously, such an objective should be in line with the cause advocated. Example of purpose of benefit event: to raise funds for the construction of a medical outpatient clinic in a given community. 2) DEFINE WHAT THE EVENT TYPE WILL BE: Once the goal is set, you should think about what type of event will be held. Again, it is absolutely necessary to fine-tune the type of event with the cause advocated, which gives you excellent results not only in financial terms, but also in terms of good impression for your organization. IMPORTANT: When deciding on the type of event, make sure that it is not a counter-claim to the cause advocated. For example, there is no point in promoting a generous charity fundraiser to raise funds to starve children in conditions of social vulnerability. In this case, the best option will be an event where participants can donate non-perishable food.
