2017) and then remembering how the hospital where I worked in PA began to develop that practice in the NICU with positive results. The NICU nurse who developed their own project did so based on the evidence that was surfacing, and their particpation helped us achieve Magnet status was creating a permanent care practice that was healthy and productive for the infants and their parents. Within our current times, we have to understand that nursing and related fields are more complex than ever, and with that understanding nurses need to look to evidence-based practices as a continued resource on how quality of care is not only maintained, but how we look to finding room for improvement. "Evidence-based practice is the thoughtful integration of the best available evidence, coupled with clinical expertise" (Leonard & Miller, 2012). We only become better at what we do, increasing our knowledge and our expertise within our practice, by the use of what evidence has already shown.
