literature. This event was known as the Harlem Renaissance and during this time musicians of African American heritage brought back old folk songs with a new bluesy feel to them. This song is thought to have dated all the way back to times of slavery as spiritual song. This song reflects this popular trend because African American musicians brought this spiritual song back which was what was being done during this Renaissance time. Ethel Waters I’ve Found A New Baby 1925 Gender In this song, Ethel Waters is reflecting the “New Era.” This Era gave a new found freedom and lifestyle to women all across the country. This song represents that new lifestyle by talking about how this woman has found a new lover that is so much better than the last. The song also talks about sexual encounters for reasons other than reproduction which came about in the 1920s trends. Some people still believed that this was not okay, however, as a whole people started to move away from the thought that sex could be used just to have a good time and not just for the sakes of reproduction.
