A fundamental principle of academic, business and community life is honesty. Violation of this ethic will result in penalties ranging from a grade of "F" in the assignment to dismissal from the University. In all penalties, a letter of fact will be included in the student's file. Blackboard: An extremely important piece of this course is the Blackboard system ( http://blackboard.fau.edu/ ). All the material you need for this course (excluding, of course, the textbook) will be posted there: this syllabus, class charts, additional reading material, grades, and special announcements. Your first assignment for this course is to log in Blackboard and check if your ID and password are working. The second thing I would like you to check is the e-mail address listed in Blackboard. I will be sending you frequent e-mails from Blackboard with announcements related to the course and it is your responsibility to assure that Blackboard has your correct e-mail address. Your FAU e-mail address will be listed by default regardless of whether or not this is an active e-mail account of yours, according to the new FAU e-mail policy, effective August 1, 2004: “When contacting students via e-mail, the University will use only the student's FAU e-mail address. This will ensure that e-mail messages from FAU administration and faculty can be sent to all students via a valid address. E-mail accounts are provided automatically for all students from the point of application to the University. The account will be disabled one semester post-graduation or after three consecutive semesters not registered for a course.” If you are not aware of this policy please check http://www.fau.edu/aboutfau/email_policy.html . If your FAU email address is not active, any messages sent to you through Blackboard will be undeliverable. In such case you will have to provide the forwarding of emails from your “fau.edu” address to your active email address.
