of Buliwyf, the leader of the 13 warriors, is the character that most nearly resembles Beowulf. With a tough, leader’s demeanor, he plays his role throughout the movie giving off the vibe of a skilled, tough, powerful stalwart . However, he’s not as arrogant or haughty as Beowulf. These traits are made up for with Dennis Storhøi’s character, Herger. Herger gives off the vibe of a loud, garrulous, conceited warrior, while still keeping his skill as a swordsman intact, while combining the two to form his weapon-brandishing, cheeky character. Together, these three characters more or less make up the character of Beowulf. In addition to the characters, other aspects of the movie portray Beowulf in a theatrical sense as well. Cinematically, “The 13 th Warrior” matches the description set in the book well, except for a couple of key aspects. In the poem, after the monsters were defeated, Herot was decorated in celebration of the monster finally being warded off, something that the movie failed to emulate. In terms of costumes, the warriors from the North did in fact, have chainmail armor and swords, except for Ibn Fahdlan, who wore traditional Arabic attire.
