Calculator We will use the TI 83/84 for this class (this is a requirement). TI Inspire and TI 89 calculators may NOT be used. I will offer some guidance and tips on this calculator, but it is your responsibility to become familiar with your own calculator. Although calculators will be permitted on most assignments, it is very important that you always SHOW ALL YOUR WORK. I have a strict no work, no credit policy. Attendance Policy This class does have an attendance policy, and attendance will be taken at every class. There will be NO unexcused absences in this class. You should obtain and keep documentation for every absence, however I will only require you to file your documentation with the dean of students after your third absence . (Please be prepared to file documentation for every absence with the dean of students if absences exceed 3.) Starting on your fourth absence, your grade for the class will be lowered by 5% for that and each additional absence. In addition, benefits will be awarded
MATH 1242 Spring 2019 for good attendance: Students with 2 or fewer total absences may replace their lowest test grade with the final exam grade if applicable and drop their lowest Before Class Quiz and WeBWorK Scores. Should you be absent for any reason, it is your responsibility to catch up and get class notes and learn the material on your own. You are also responsible for any announcements made during class and will not be exempt from any assignments or due dates due to your absence. Communication Policy In order for communication in a large class environment to occur effectively, the following guidelines have been set in place: My main communication tool with you is CANVAS. Please check this site daily for information and updates. All instructions, documents and assignments will be posted on this site. Specifically, please refer to the course syllabus and course calendar where you will find all of the general and organizational information that you will need. I can be reached by email. Please do not leave phone messages or contact me through Canvas messenger as this neither feature is accessible to me off campus. Always use your UNC Charlotte email account. It is a requirement of UNC Charlotte that students also check their own UNC email accounts daily. It is my goal to respond to all messages in a timely manner. In general, all emails will be responded to by the end of the following business day . Certain emails will not be responded to. Those include: o Duplicate questions i.e. information that is available on the course syllabus or elsewhere on the Canvas site. o Questions asking for detailed explanations of mathematical concepts. It is very difficult to explain most math concepts over email. Instead, please make use of the extra resources available to you (i.e. my office hours, Math Learning Center & S.I. opportunities). Classroom Conduct and Studying Guideline Additional Learning Opportunities As the redesigned approached in this course relies on daily learning interaction outside of class it is necessary for you to be familiar with all of these options and make use of as many as possible.
