every human has free will and they can grow through self-judgment and self-
knowledge, which the Official Seal of Arkansas lacks.
b.
The Official Seal of Arkansas has an image of a woman holding a cap of liberty.
She is supposed to represent freedom brought upon by the market revolution, so
if slavery was added to this image it would contradict the Seal’s message of
liberty.

How did the market revolution impact a women’s place in society? How did the
Shoemaker Strike in Lynn, MA highlight a growing trend during the market revolution?
The market revolution was a turning point in women’s lives up to a certain extent.
As
the market revolution took place, women also sought to go out in the world and work.
Opportunities were given to them by the Lowell Mills where young unmarried women
could go to work. But despite being able to work, there were quite a lot of
disadvantages. Women could not choose jobs at their free will as only low-paying jobs
were available to them where the wages were far less than that of the men. Married
women could not earn money under their own name. Many of the lower class, poor
women had jobs as servants or in shoemaking, hatmaking, and clothing manufacture,
which they could do from home. But as the market revolution grew, the idea of Cult of
Domesticity evolved from Republican Motherhood. His new philosophy emphasized
gender roles for women. It brought up new ideas of femininity such as sexual innocence,
beauty, frailty, and dependence on men. These ideas of femininity were promoted by
The Young Lady’s Book, a very famous magazine targeted towards young females. This
idea also addressed women’s roles in the household. According to Domesticity, women
were responsible for creating a positive environment in the house and teaching their
children about nationalism and teaching them to be responsible citizens. It emphasized
the idea that women are meant to stay home and men are the ones who are supposed
to go out in the corrupted world. This restricted a woman’s participation in the outside
world even more. Males should be the head of the household and be the money-maker
as part of social justice. According to many, tearing women away from the domestic
spheres and put into labor disrupted this social justice.
The Shoemaker Strike in Lynn, MA was when eight hundred women operatives walked
off their jobs. This strike was arranged because the women claimed that they were being
treated like slaves. They were paid low wages and labored for around 11 hours every

day. This strike called for higher wages and shorter working hours. This revolt shows a
growing trend caused by the market revolution: a divide between social classes. It
created a stronger barrier between wealthy merchants and poor workers.
