H2. Work Environment My work environment embraces nurses as leaders. They offer an entry into management program for those who wish to advance their careers or take on a managerial role in the organization. They also recognize staff who go above and beyond their work requirements and
TASK 1 17 highlight those leadership attributes on an “Everyday Leaders Board” which is posted in the employee lounge. At my facility, we have monthly all-staff meetings that keep everyone up-to-date on new policies or changes happening within the organization. These meetings also include safety awards, special acknowledgments, and anniversary mentions. We also have unit specific meetings each quarter. This meeting is more specific to the needs and concerns of a specific group working on one unit within the hospital. On the adolescent unit we talk about new types of contraband, how adolescents self-harm and contraband that can potentially aid in self-harm behaviors. We also discuss the reporting of suspected abuse as it is very common in this population. This supports nurses in decision making regarding their working environment. My facility also promotes professional development by offering tuition reimbursement to full and part-time staff. They also provide a computer lab for employees to use with access to free printing. Because of this, I have had the opportunity to receive reimbursement towards my Bachelor’s degree along with free printing of online materials. This has helped with my cost of education and furthering my professional development as a nurse.
