and she did feel offended. According to Cathleen, He knew she had a boyfriend and he motioned he had a dream in which he had sex with her and wanted a relationship with her. He also mentioned he would keep their relationship secret. Having the letter tormented her so she finally decided to get rid of it and throw it away after over two weeks. She mentioned that she was considering taking the letter to Henry and complaining however, she did not want to seem like a troublemaker or have her job be at risk. She tried avoiding him as much as she could because shewas afraid. Finally, in January of 2000, she accepted a new job.The case of Karen Landry is disturbing as well, she has been a music teacher for over ten years. She had already complained about Canden's behavior by writing a letter to Strauss following up on the sexual harassment training in 1999. In the summer of 1994, she realized that his behavior was not professional behavior. He made inappropriate comments and some females became really upset because he also violated some of their personal space and violated them emotionally. However, Landry did not ever tell Tom Canden how she felt offended by his words. There was also no witness to any of her incidents. Diana Barnes was an African American single parent and was a Custodian and she is currently now in another school. She became a custodian before Canden in 1998. She expressed that Canden was very rude and disrespectful, used inappropriate language towards females and made eye contact with inappropriate body parts. The reason Diana moved to work in another school was because she felt trapped and did not want to work around someone like Tom Canden.The difficulties in all these cases are that the evidence was not provided making the accusations more difficult to prove. They knew sexual harassment was being done and most of the teachers were ignoring it. They are the ones to be held accountable and should have done something to make sure this behavior is not affecting any other females in the workforce. While
some did report to Henry what he did was not enough and seems to be ignoring the problem to admit that these ladies in IES have been Sexually Harassed by Tom Canden. If sexual harassmentemphasizes to not be afraid to report and keep evidence for future investigation this could have possibly helped into further providing concrete evidence against Tom Canden. According to the article of Aspects Concerning Sexual and Moral Harassment in the workplace, “The most obvious such manifestations are those that consist of physical or verbal aggression, but there are also more subtle and perverse methods to influence the workplace environment in order to create social isolation or morally or professionally compromise the victim” (Gidro, & Gidro, 2016, Pg. 2). Like we can see in this case, Tom proceeds to conduct his behaviors with females after it was clarified from some females to stop.
