5.2 Conclusion The purpose of the thesis was to find the relation between positive work environment and employee productivity. The ability to attract, keep and motivate employees’ high productivity is becoming increasingly crucial in today competitive business environments. Money is no longer a sufficient motivator in the workplace for performance, and the work environment plays an important part in motivating employees to perform their optimum. The study revealed that employees have the will to improve their productivity if the problems identified are tackled by the management. Towards the end of the research, it was concluded that the environment employees find themselves in play a big part in affecting their productivity. Therefore it is the organisations responsibility to provide an encouraging, positive and comfortable work environment for everyone in order to increase productivity and performance. There is strong indication that working environment had an impact on employees, considering the respondents. The study also revealed that employees’ have hold the will to improve their performance if the problems identified during the research are tackled by the management. The issues identified in the study were: flexibility of working environment, noise distraction at the job, supervisor’s relationship with employees and interpersonal relationship within coworkers, presence of job aid and workplace safety, and presence of performance feedback. In conclusion, based on the findings the study recommended that the organisation needs to plan periodic meetings with employees to allow them to give their contribution in decision-making, and possibly in turn serve as a motivating factor to the employees. Management should find ways and means of regularly communicating their goals and strategies to their employees in order to achieve what the organisation is in business for, their mission and vision. Employees and supervisors should both be willing to equally contribute to building relationships and taking interest in the wellbeing of their coworkers. 5.3 Suggestions for Further Study 40
Image of page 44
The study explored only relations on working environment with employee productivity, based on The Event Mill. The results obtained may not be generalised around Australia as they only applied to a certain organisations employees. Thus, future research in various parts of Australia or between industry sectors could be carried out in order to compare perceptions and findings. Additionally, further research should be conducted regarding job satisfaction in the same organisation and then follow it with another study, after implementations are established and a more encouraging work environment is created, again connecting it with job satisfaction and subsequently comparing the findings.
