What makes one atom different from another atom is

This preview shows page 1 - 2 out of 2 pages.

All atoms are made up of subatomic particles. What makes one atom different from another atom is the number of subatomic particles that make up the atom. The table above provides information about subatomic particles but tells us nothing about where they are located in the atom or how they contribute to the properties of the atom. Human knowledge of the location of these particles in the atom, how the particles behave in the atom, and the role that each of these particles has contribute to the properties of the atom has evolved throughout the history of science. It is now known that protons and neutrons are in the relative center of the atom and make up what we refer to as the nucleus of the atom. Electrons are found outside of the nucleus in regions of space that are referred to as electron orbital’s or electron energy levels. The periodic table keeps basic information about atomic structure very organized. On the periodic each element has a different atomic number. The atomic number represents the number of protons in the nucleus of the atom of each element.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
