(2015). Knowing the ways how the native speakers speak is one of the most effective ways for the international students to improve their language proficiency. According to Wei Qiu, “native speakers as appropriate language models” (2011). The international students do not like interact with the people who speak English because sometimes it is hard to get what the English speakerssay and hard to explain what the international students want to say. So they do not have chance to know how the native speakers speak and they do not have a lot of opportunities to practice
their listening skills. If the instructors create events like group discussion and partner works to force the international students to use English more and more often, their will break through the listening comprehension sooner. “Previous literature suggests that group work could arouse students’ learning interests, cultivate their exploring ability and creative thinking” (Davidson & Worsham, 1992; Johnson & Johnson, 1994; Johnston & Miles, 2004) and “improve their team spirit and social communication skills” (Fearon, McLaughlin, & Eng, 2012; Olivera & Strauss, 2004). The group activities will certainly help the international students to improve their listening skills. Sometimes the sources that the instructors give out before class may help the international students to learn faster during class. Because of the international students cannot process the information as soon as they hear the information and the limited time during class, the instructors should give more class information before the class day. The international students complained about how they get one point of the lecture and miss the other parts during class commonly, and always get back home and learn from the slide that the instructors post afterclass. However, learning from the slide is not enough because there are a lot of additional parts that the instructors provide during the class, they would still miss that important part. Providing the resources in order to give the international students a brief understanding of the ideas before the class. The instructors could give out some key words before the class, so that the international students could translate the words before lecture.
