There are several goals of our foreign policy which are; “Preserving the national security of the United States, Promoting world peace and a secure global environment, Maintaining a balance of power among nations, Working with allies to solve international problems, Promoting democratic values and human rights, Furthering cooperative foreign trade and global involvement in international trade organizations” (Ushistory.org, 2019, para 5). According to Foreign Policy Association, (2019) the legislative branch is “to advise the President in negotiating agreements, to consent to them once they have been signed, and to approve presidential appointments, including the Secretary of State, other high officials of the State Department, ambassadors and career foreign service officers” (para 5). Under the Constitution the President also has defined roles when it comes to making foreign policy, however the President has fewer and they are more restricted.
