12. PROTOTYPE DRUG : IBUPROFEN (MOTRIN) i. To inhibit cyclooxygenase and prevent formation of prostaglandins i. Mild or moderate pain and to reduce inflammation i. GI upset ii. Acute renal failure iii. Decreased platelet aggregation – risk for bleeding iv. Increased gastric acid secretion – peptic ulcers (take with full glass of water and food / avoid alcohol) v. Decreases fever
