says Socrates, “should not expect anything wrong with death, and even if we take what is right, it is that with a good man there is nothing bad during life, or after death and that the gods do not cease to take care of his affairs "[5]. Transmitting the meaning of Socrates' instructions about death, Plato argued that those who are truly devoted to philosophy "are occupied, in fact, with only one thing — dying and death." Death, according to Socrates, is the separation of the soul from the body, its release from the dungeon in which it was located, while earthly life lasted. 32. Socrates says that a good man cannot be harmed. How so? 33. What is Socrates’ best reason for saying that it would be wrong for him to escape from prison and avoid being executed? What do you think about this? As you know, the Athenians sent Socrates to death, he executed their judicial sentence and drank poison. Socrates, on the one hand, was a gallant warrior and patriot, and on the other, a philosopher, whose ideas were viewed by the authorities as dangerous to society. The court of Athenian democracy demanded that he cease to engage in philosophy. Socrates refused and was sentenced to death. Friends of Socrates prepared him a jailbreak, but he refused. He obeyed the law, did not want violence against the law. He obeyed fate, for his mind left him no other way. Socrates reasoned like this: reason is my highest virtue; if it is powerless, then the innocent have to die. He believed that escape could mean his refusal from his ideas, from moral principles, which he professed and taught to other people. He argued that the most important thing is to appreciate not life as such, but life is good. Socrates, who refused to escape from prison, understood: the wisdom, unjustly condemned in his face to death, will also become a judge of injustice.
