Students are expected to arrive on time and not

This preview shows page 1 - 2 out of 2 pages.

Students are expected to arrive on time and not disturb the class by entering late. There are NO make-up exams or extra credit assignments! Assignments and weekly chapter notes will be posted on Blackboard. Students are REQUIRED to bring the notes to each class meeting. Respect is an essential element of academic discussion. Students are expected to be committed to their own education, as well as to contribute to a classroom environment that challenges and interests others. Research papers must be written in the same prose style used in your class work. There should be no question as to the author of your outside assignments. If there is a wide disparity between grades, vocabulary, grammar, or prose style, your research paper will not be accepted. LEARNING OBJECTIVES: By the end of the course, students will be able to: Identify the characteristics of a minority group. Explain how ethnocentrism affects our acceptance of others. Examine the dynamics of intergroup relations. Distinguish the complex differences between a racial and ethnic group. Evaluate what sociological perspectives tell us about minority groups. Compare and contrast the assimilation paths followed by various immigrant groups. COURSE REQUIREMENTS: There will be homework assignments, film analyses, two quizzes, a midterm and a final exam.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
