Beard is trying to saying that all nations around the world have this decision that lies ahead of them; do they retreat to feudalism and basic ways of living as before or do they try to strive forward into the new age? Many people had many a criticism to this new way of life. Beard pointed out three of the most common criticisms which were: aesthetics, religion, and lacking humanitarianism. What one thing in particular I like about Beard’s writing, is he shows where these criticisms are coming from and how they could be viewed in a different light that could make this new way of living all right. their creativity, freedom, and joys if they were to work in a factory because of the monotony of the assembly line. Beard agrees that there is monotony but that if people would just wait it out, maybe projects like the garden-city movement will improve the aesthetics of not only the factory towns but maybe the people’s work too.
