9. Undertake research and consider the two scenarios given (Assessments 1 and 2) and describe what would be the costs and benefits (including future opportunity costs) of evaluating the organisation plan. Do you think this cost is worthwhile for these two companies? If not, please explain why not? Costs: Regarding the costs. When determining the resources needed to carry out the evaluation effectively it has to be taken into account time, money, and expertise. Depending on budgeting and planning processes in each organization, it is relevant to make a rough estimate of evaluation costs some time before the start of the evaluation planning, and to develop a more detailed budget at a later stage. An accurate version of an evaluation budget can be based on the evaluation scope of work which outline the evaluation design, options, sample sizes and other considerations that have direct bearing on the costs. It is important to be sure to estimate resources needed to facilitate the participation of those outside the organization commissioning the evaluation, such as program participants, partner organizations, and others. It is critical to consult with key stakeholders who will be asked to participate in the evaluation. One effective way to break down the budget is by evaluation activities. Benefits: It helps to confirm that the benefits established and defined in the initiative's development stage are being achieved and that the implemented initiative is running smoothly. It measures the extent to which the initiative achieves the outcome(s) sought (as described in the Business Case) and to what extent further justified actions are required to achieve and/or enhance benefits. It provides information that may be used to help inform future decisions. It provides a level of transparency and accountability for past initiative decisions. It provides learnings for future planning, assessment and decision-making. COST BENEFIT ANALYSIS: EVALUATING ORGANISATION PLAN - SCENARIOS 1 AND 2 Scenario 1 Scenario 2 Total Costs - $280,000 - $60,000 Increased productivity value-add (net) $950,000 $225,000 Net cost benefit $670,000 $165,000 Table 1 – Cost Benefit Analysis The cost is worthwhile as this will guarantee the continuous success of the company and it can be observed in Table 1, that the net cost benefit is around 3 times the total cost which indicate highly financial benefits as well. Scenario Two Newcastle Nerds Slowly and steadily, Jake built up his computing business to include technical support and procurement for small businesses and website design and maintenance for SME’s. Three years and three employees later, and buoyed by his success and his loyal customer base, Jake decided to expand further and bought another small computing business that subcontracted maintenance work mostly from larger government bodies and NGO’s. Jake felt that its client base would provide access to new business opportunities and that the skills of its employees would complement his own employees’ skills.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
