Osteitis deformans- chronic disease characterized by enlarged, weak bones Oste (bone) + it is (inflammation) Osteitis deformans causes the bones to be weaker. 28. Osteoplasty- surgical repair of bone Oste/o (bone) + plasty (surgical repair) Since the femur is such a weight bearing bone, a break often requires osteoplasty. 29. Petechiae - small red dots appearing on the skin surface as a sign of a potentially serious disorder involving rupture of blood vessels Petecchie (flea bites) Petechiae is the result of a localized hemorrhage. 30. Pruritus- symptom of itchy skin Prurit (itching) + us (structure, thing) Pruritus is caused by the irritation of sensory nerve endings. 31. Rhytidectomy - plastic surgery in which skin wrinkles are surgically removed Rhytid (wrinkle) + ectomy (surgical removal) Rhytidectomy is a much more invasive way of dealing with wrinkles.
