It is meant to be challenging and interesting. Do not worry if you do not have knowledge about the period of history that the extract is taken from. The examiners have purposefully tried to choose historical periods that few people will have studied to make the test fair. You do not need to do extra reading. Rather, review the topics you have studied in History in the past year or so. Cons ider the ‘Big Picture’ for each topic you have studied. Some questions to ask about each topic include.

1) What was the topic about? 2) What changed during the period? Why? 3) What stayed the same during the period? Why? 4) What conflicts/ movements have you studied? How can each be characterised? 5) What groups were involved? 6) How would you describe the people/ culture/ economy/ ideology/ religion of the time?
