moved out as it as a net displacement of 2 and sample B shows no movement. With the sweet potato sample A has no movement, while sample B has movement outward. 6. Would this experiment work with other plant cells? What about with animal cells? Why or why not? a. The experiment could work with other plant cells, though the results would be very different. Since animal cells deal more with salt than sugar the results would vary and could even cause the cells to explode from taking in too much water. 7. From what you know of tonicity, what can you say about the plant cells and the solutions in the test tubes? a. Pure would is hypotonic to potatoes while sodium chloride is hyper tonic. 8. What do your results show about the concentration of the cytoplasm in the potato cells at the start of the experiment? a. The results from the experiment prove that cytoplasm weighs less than water so when osmosis begins potato cells intake the water to add to their mass. ©eScience Labs, 2016

9. If the potato is allowed to dehydrate by sitting in open air, would the potato cells be more likely to absorb more or less water? Explain. a. The potatoes would be more likely to absorb more water, especially since the cells would have to room to take the water in. The water potential also increases because of the exposure to air, since water potential is the tendency of water moving from one area to another that means that the water has a higher chance of invading the potato cells. ©eScience Labs, 2016
