him to argue anymore. He internally has admitted (a long time ago) that his grandfather wasn’t the
nicest person out there.
Jaebum rolls his eyes. “Poor you. You really have no fucking clue. Jimin-ah, does he really not
know? You didn’t tell him anything?” Jaebum asks, pointing at Jungkook incredulously.
“Tell me what? Can you just cut to the chase?” Jungkook asks through gritted teeth.
“What do you know about the accident five years ago?” Jaebum asks.
Jungkook breathes out harshly. “My dad and uh…his assistant died in the crash.” He tilts his head
towards Jimin and squeezes his hand under the table for reassurance. “Jiminie-hyung’s parents and
girlfriend died too.”
“What else?”
“Uh…” Jungkook runs his free hand through his hair, squeezing Jimin’s hand tighter. “I uh…Jimin’s
dad was um…the d-drunk driver. Who caused the accident.” He finishes with difficulty, gulping.
“You see, Jungkook-ssi…I’m a police officer.” Jaebum says, gesturing to the interrogation room
around them. “I only want one thing and that’s justice. Do you understand?”
“Yes, but what does that have to do with this?”
“Jimin-ah…you really didn’t tell him…” Jaebum ponders, eyebrows raised.
“I didn’t, hyung.” Jimin confirms, once again looking down at the table.
Jaebum sighs wearily, pinching the bridge of his nose. He flips open one of the folders and looks
through the contents briefly. “Jungkook-ssi, there’s one thing that you have to know and that’s the
fact that Jimin’s father was not drunk.” Jaebum says, peering up at him.
Jungkook’s jaw slacks. “W-what?”
Jaebum pushes the folder across the table. “Jimin’s father was not drunk when he was driving that
night.” He repeats, tapping the paper in front of him.
Jungkook brings the paper closer to him in a daze. It’s an autopsy report. Park Young-cheol. Jimin’s
dad’s.
Jimin squeezes his eyes shut and looks away and his grip around Jungkook’s hand tightens
impossibly more.
“You can see here,” Jaebum points his attention towards one of the listed numbers and percentages

on the paper. “Zero alcohol in his blood.”
Jungkook gulps. “I don’t…I d-don’t understand.”
Jaebum looks at Jimin for a brief moment, who speaks up. “My dad didn’t drink, Jungkook.” Jimin
says, voice rough. “He was religious. Didn’t see him drink a drop of alcohol in my life.” He says
towards the table.
“Jimin…”
“That’s why I didn’t believe it when they told me at first.” Jimin says, he clears his throat. “I never
saw him drink before. Ever. And they were telling me he caused the death of four others because he
was driving while drunk.” Jimin looks down again.
“Then…w-what happened?”
“Anyways, here.” Jaebum takes out another piece of paper from the same folder. “This is the autopsy
report that was submitted to the case file.”
He slides it over to Jungkook again. “It says here the blood alcohol level was well above the legal
limit here but look at the name here. It’s Park Young-cheol. And here’s the exact same report but
