CHALLENGES OF GLOBAL VIRTUAL PROJECTS Traditional face to face meetings together with several other alternatives that are attached to the 20 th century. According to research, various traditions businesses are carried out in a face to face meeting and this still appears to be one of the most effective methods most so when logistics in involved in order to allow it to be a practical situation. Due to the emergence of a lot of travel costs and time, this is a condition that appears to be impossible at all costs. In the 20 th century, there were various alternatives that were invented where most of them were concerned about face to face meetings. These types of alternatives were brought on board due to the advancement in various forms of technologies. Some of the examples associated to these technologies include fax machine, email together with several types of electronic data interchange. These appeared to be some of the important advancements that took place in the 20 th century. But now the current business environment has developed to become a much more global in terms of operations therefore there is the need for more technological advances that can be used in the improvement of a collaboration system of any given team. 9 CHALLENGES OF GLOBAL VIRTUAL PROJECTS There are various factors that are normally concerned with increasing the need for collaboration. One of the major factors is the outsourcing movement that can happen under various circumstances. Due to the presence of low levels of labor costs across various sectors, significant amount of information technology activities most so when it comes to the development of various types of software, are currently being outsourced to other countries across the universe. The emergence of the terrorist attack in the united states that took place on September 11 th 2001 is another reason that contributed towards an increased virtual team with all their contribution needs. Also, air travel for most meetings has started to become an expensive a risky means. In addition, the increased expenses for travel associated with various businesses has made various employees within organizations to avoid taking personal risks and endure the personal inconvenience that happens as a result of travelling. Challenges of virtual teams that performs various tasks across different cultures is another reason that has led to the need of collaboration. Culture is actually a combination of various beliefs, rules and techniques that are able to perfectly describe the human population. Thumb came up with various rules associated with the implementation of business across cultures, these rules include the following; -Be prepared -Slow down -Develop a sense of trust -being able to perfectly understand the importance of language.
