The main point to be noted is that like all Comedy plays; Measure for Measuredid in fact end in marriage. Apart from marriage, the play Measure for Measure also contained a disguise, which further endorsed it as a comedy. The well-known comedy plays As You Like Itand Two Gentlemen Of Veronaalso contained disguises. In this play Measure To Measurespecifically, Vincentio, the duke of Vienna appoints Angelo to enforce his laws and
2subsequently adopts the guise of Friar Lodowick till almost the end of the play when he reveals himself. Additionally, there is also the case of mistaken identities in this play. Angelo the villain is duped into sleeping with Mariana who he thinks is Isabella. The duke also passes of the head of a dead pirate as Claudio’s head. This kind of structure with disguises, mistaken identities and multiple plots with twists and turns resemble another of Shakespeare’s play of the comedy genre called the Comedy Of Errors.
