Micro-level: means something close to the lived experience of people who divorce ie
attitudes, perceptions, sentiments, beliefs etc. includes experiences like rejection, infidelity,
and marital dissatisfaction.
Macro-level: societal changes like increased social tolerance of divorce, womens
involvement in the workforce, and changes in divorce laws.
Meso-level: typically demographic predictors: characteristics of people who are at a high risk
of divorce. Unclear whether these characteristics are causes, determinants, or predictors. Ex
people who marry at a young age after only a short relationship have a high risk of divorcing.
Include: young age at marriage, parental divorce, premarital pregnancy and/or child bearing,
childlessness, having a large number of children, early stage of marriage, urban residence,
residence in bc ab or qc, absence of religious belief or affiliation, low socio-economic status.
