iodobutane is the weakest among all alkyl halides which due to the biggest size of the iodine compare with other halides which used in this experiment cause the distance between the nuclei of the iodide and butane are far enough for the reaction to occur easily compare with others halide which used in this experiment. Thus, bond strength of the 1-iodobutane is the strongest among other alkyl halides. When the precipitate is formed, this indicate that the reaction between free iodide and butane had been occur to form silver iodide which is the yellow color compound. This compound will sink into the bottom of the solution due to higher density of the compound compare with the solution and formed precipitate. However, the reaction of 1-bromobutane is the second fastest reaction among all these reactions only required 6 minutes to form precipitate. This is because the covalent bond of the 1-bromobutane is the second weakest among all alkyl halides which due to the size of the bromide was in between the iodide and chloride cause the distance between the nuclei of the bromide and butane are in between the iodide and chloride which allowed the reaction to occur easily compare with chloride in this experiment. Thus, bond strength of the bromide is in between the iodide and chloride among other alkyl halides. When the precipitate is formed, this indicate that the reaction between bromide and butane had been occur to form silver bromide which is the creamy compound. This compound will sink into the bottom of the solution due to higher density of the compound compare with the solution and formed precipitate. Yet, the 1-chlorobutane take the longest time to form precipitate which is 11 minutes. This is because the covalent bond of the 1-chlorobutane is the strongest among all alkyl halides which due to the size of the bromide was smallest size among all halides used in this experiment cause the distance between the nuclei of the chloride and butane are smallest which allowed the reaction to occur easily compare with chloride in this experiment. Thus, bond strength of the chloride is the strongest among other alkyl halides. When the precipitate is formed, this indicate that the reaction between bromide and butane had been occur to form silver bromide which is the cloundly and white compound. This compound will sink into the bottom of the solution due to higher density of the compond compare with the solution and formed precipitate. In this experiment, the solution was immersed in 60 o C water bath to speed up the reaction. The reason behind this is because the increase in temperature will result in increase of rate of reaction by allowed the collision between molecule more frequently. This is due to increase in temperature will increases the average kinetic energy of the molecules and allowed more number of molecules with sufficient energy to react. Thus, the reactants cross over the barrier more frequently which allowed the reaction occur faster. The advantages of this is to save the time taken to react by increase the rate of reaction.
