Fortified wine Wine that has a higher alcohol percentage Has raw alcohol in it Cherry, port wine, madera 17-22% alcohol Varietal wine: wine made from one grape variety o Some wines are named from the places they are from o Some wines are named from the grape that is in it Merlot is a grape Chardonnay is a grape o Varietal wine examples are chardonnay or merlot o Very high in one specific grape Blended wine: wine made from 2 or more grape varieties o Keonty is from a place but has a few grapes in it Vintage wine: date posted on the bottle o The date is specific for the year the grapes were harvested There are lots of different grape varieties o Thousands of different grapes o There are different ways to grow grapes in different areas o There are different wine making styles China vs Virginia styles are different There are different processes o There are differing viniculture and viticulture o Different climates Two winemakers trying to make the exact same merlot in New Zealand and Napa Valley o They will not achieve this goal!!! Because of terroir You’ll never have the same wine twice!
