Question 4: What are some of the security issues of e-business? Answer 4: The challenges continue as e-businesses attempt to provide a secure network environment for conducting business. Security issues in e-business are the basis of trust and long- term relationships with customers and employees. Some security issues include secure payment, customer redress mechanisms, unassailable encryption, unique digital signatures, interactive interfaces, privacy safeguards, and rating schemes that allow user standards to evolve with e- business markets. E-businesses must focus on security policies, assess vulnerabilities, and monitor and evaluate information to properly protect their assets while enabling business growth. If properly executed, organizations can reduce costs, improve operational efficiencies, and safeguard their information assets. Question 5: What types of e-business communication platforms are being use d in today’s marketplace? Answer 5: Internet-based hypermedia have evolved a number of communication platforms that support a wide variety of messaging systems. These include Web pages, e-mail, chat, discussion forums, Webcasting, and instant messaging. These platforms can be either time dependent or time independent. Question 6: What is Webcasting? Answer 6: Webcasting is telecommunication technology that supports audio and visual dissemination of information incorporating interactive tools such as videoconferencing and video-on-demand. Live Webcasting connects audiences and disseminates information normally transmitted through personal meetings, teleconference calls, industry conferences, Web sites, and list servers. Webcasting and streaming media are being used by portal Web sites, streaming service providers, content creators, educators, entrepreneurs, and a vast array of organizations. Question 7: How are extranets and intranets used by e-businesses? Answer 7: E-business communication platforms are enhancing the communication process within and between firms through the use of both extranets and intranets: Extranets: Extranets are Internet links between business suppliers and purchasers used by e- businesses to quickly communicate and transact between each other and their vendors. Intranets: Intranets are Internet-based networks that operate inside a business. Companies use intranets to disseminate information, such as policies and procedures; share documents; offer phone directories; provide human resources information; give online training; and conduct internal information searches.
