2 Acceptance from her mother also led her to accept herself. However, it seems like her challenge of cutting her hair in that way doesn’t mean that now she accepts and follows her every single value and preference. “My favorite designer and brand is Alexander Wang but I don’t wear it. It’s too sexy for me. I don’t want to be a visible person. But I still wanna look cool and chic, so I wear black. When I wear black, people tell me that I look so cool. I like their complements.” She doesn’t want to be a visible person but still want to be recognized by others. It’s the contradiction that I find from her thought and it’s the confusion she is experiencing. I asked, “What made you that person?” And the answer is all about her childhood and her background. She said, it’s because of her mom. When every time she tried to make up herself, her mother was laughing at her and Maggie felt her mom was making fun of her makeup appearance. “I felt the same way with the story “Girl” by Jamaica Kincaid’. The story is from my Parsons Seminar classes’ article material and the story is about a mother’s command to her daughter. Every sentence is all about the things that the mother says her daughter can’t do. Like the mother in the story, Maggie’s mom usually told her “Do not put on makeup too much”. Moreover, her anecdote related with her perfume comes strong. One day when Maggie tried to wear perfume in her room, her mother suddenly opened the door. Maggie dropped her perfume because she was so embarrassed and afraid of her mother’s reaction. The perfume broke. Maggie said, “Now, I feel like I have no idea of how to do make-up or make myself in
