not as many die but the mentality is still in stage one so you have a lot of kids o Examples on earth: Zambia, Vietnam, Guatemala, a lot of Africa Places we consider kind of underdeveloped Stage 3: Mature Industrial o A continuation of all of the trends in stage two just ramped up even more o There is still some farmers but it is increasingly becoming mechanized More people are now in the industrial sector working in factories Job specialization are increasing even more and are joining the service sector o People live increasingly in the big cities because that’s where all the action (jobs/amenities) is One of the biggest differences between stage two and stage three is that stage three is mostly urban/decreasing rural o Health care advances get insane at this point 911 was developed during this time They can also do transplants now or reattach limbs o Education increases during this phase This impacts the society and how many kids they have As you educate your society and it becomes more available to more people, it has an exact 1 to 1 effect on fertility rates Educating women = lower fertility rate They are educated about birth control, bodies, health issues, and family planning Controlling family size is very important and it comes with educating women They also become more career oriented and go into the work force while delaying marriage and family creation which will decrease the total family size Higher education = lower fertility rate o Decreasing infant mortality and death rate but it isn’t plummeting quite as much o Birth rate really plummets and bottoms out to meet the death rate rapidly Because of technology, quality of life, education of women, birth control, etc. o In this interim period while the birth rate is trying to lower itself down, the population explodes
