The only ‘glue’ of nay virtual workplace is trust and without trust within the workplace, there is a high probability of various mistakes coming up at any time. It is important for all the members to come up with appropriate suggestions that will contribute towards moving in the right direction within a required time schedule. Implementation of a face to face kick off meeting at the start is one of the best techniques that can be used in the scaling up of most of the social interactions that moves towards the direction of establishing trust. It is therefore appropriate to hold face to face meetings in a period of two to three months to strengthen the relationships that exists between the members. Once trust has been incorporated within any group, all operations will be conducted in an easy and efficient manner without any barrier coming in between. (5) Cultural differences The team members need to learn and understand about the various cultures that are available in the team. Background research is also included at this point and it is also appropriate to discuss with several other employees that have experience on global teams. There is nothing interesting as getting to know various cultural differences that exists between the employees that have a better understanding when it comes to working and performing various tasks with global teams. Also, there should be a lot of care that should be taken at all times, this is to eradicate certain conditions associated with stereo-typical thinking. (6) Time zones

17 CHALLENGES OF GLOBAL VIRTUAL PROJECTS If most of the team members are situated in various continents, it is appropriate that in order to come up with a conference call, one of the team members will therefore have to attend in the wee hours of the morning and this should take place in his or her location. In such like scenarios, the team can actually share the pain where they can all agree to rotate all the calls with an intention of making all the members to gain some form of experience Benefits of Virtual Teams a) Increased Productivity: Virtual teams increases the productivity of the team by reducing the time taken for the team members to meet instead of meeting in person. Even though the team members work in the same area, sometimes they work in different campuses and different levels in the same building depending on company to company. So by having teams work virtually saves lot of time which is wasted in travelling from one place to other. b) Added Flexibility: Another advantage of virtual teams is being flexible in the timings just like the location. It provides the employees the liberty to choose and work on their convenient hours of the day irrespective of the other team members. All that they have to take care is to attend the meetings which are mandatory for the members and it will also not be a big problem because of being able to connect virtually.
