28. Discuss the general climate characteristics and types of vegetation associated with the mediterranean woodland and shrub biome. A biome with mild, moist winters and hot, dry summers as well as vegetation that is typically small-leafed evergreen shrubs and small trees. 29. What are the general differences in climate associated with the tropical savanna and midlatitude grassland biomes? Tropical savanna tends to correlate with Aw climates. The correlation tends to be most noticeable where seasonal rainfall contrasts are greatest, a condition particularly associated with the broad-scale annual shifting of the ITCZ. 30. What are the general differences in climate associated with the midlatitude deciduous forest and boreal forest biomes? Mid-latitudes deciduous forest – forests consisting primarily of broadleaf trees. Are found in humid areas in the mid-latitudes with hot summers but cold winters. Boreal forests – biome closely associated with severe continental climates. 31. Contrast the general species diversity in the tropical rainforest and boreal forest biomes. Trees require more moisture than grass to grow because they have a larger surface are and bio mas (living area). The tree will transpire more water. 32. Describe the general vegetation cover found in the tundra biome. A complex mix of very low-growing plant, including grasses, fobs, dwarf shrubs, mosses and lichens, but no trees. Occurs only in the perennially cold climates of high latitudes or high altitudes. Human Modification of the Biosphere 33. What is an exotic species ? An invasive species ? Exotic species – species introduced into an area where they do not occur naturally, non-native species. Invasive species – is an organism that causes ecological or economic harm in a new environment where it is not native. 34. What is a feral animal population? The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
