On the side of the Catalan independentists and their supporters there is a deep feeling of injustice that has now lasted for almost ten years: “We have had a status voted by everyone, it was rejected by the Constitutional Court; we wanted to vote freely, Madrid sent us the police; and now we put our representatives in prison, like criminals” . On the other hand, the rest of Spain sees things differently : “these independence fighters are up to the point of never being satisfied; they are in an eternal victim position while they do not cease to provoke our democracy; it is necessary for us to protect our country by applying the laws and, in no State of law , part of the country has the right to organize its secession which has never really been claimed by the majority.” ( Comprendre la crise catalane en trois questions, L'Obs 2019) I personally think that Catalan nacionalism is justified and has been being a problem for too long. They have been trying to be independent since the moment they were integrated into the Spanish Reign as I previously analyzed. However, I think they shouldn’t forget that without having been part of Spain, Catalonia would have never been what it is now. Federal loyalty and power-sharing agreements within Catalonia could be the solution in my opinion. They have to find a middle ground because I really think Spain needs Catalonia and although Catalanists are blinded by the conviction of independence, Catalonia needs Spain. The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
