If a person is lucky enough to find a job that matches their ambition and skills, they still have to grapple with issues like communing to work, housing, and family bonds. In the long-run, most people let new opportunities slip away once they realize that they cannot afford housing prices in other cities or provinces, or are not keen to spend hours commuting to work daily. Overall, people prefer areas where they are comfortable further skewing the demand curve in Canadian markets. The Canadian market is regularly undergoing unprecedented changed due to changing customer attitudes and economic climate. These two factors have altered business operations as well as consumer purchasing behaviors. In Chapter 7, the author mentions that the global recessions have impacted customers’ outlooks and purchasing habits towards being “more responsible, demanding, and economical” towards retailers. Consumer demand has increased and lowered between 2000 and 2009, but the composition and geography of market demand in Canada has suffered from a low gross domestic product, rising unemployment, and poor business activity as well as customer confidence.
