3. Work with your group to develop an explanation for why the solution behaved the way it did. Hint: Think about what soap is used for. 4. Which biomolecule was the soap attacking in this lab? Explain how this may happen. Draw this biomolecule. Lab Clean-up & Turn-in: Please follow the instructions of your teacher to properly clean up your equipment and area. Submit this filled-out document to the HUB in the activities section of today’s lesson. One submission per group is sufficient, but please make sure all group member names are on this document. Adapted by K. Rushton from “Magic Milk Lab,” by Matthew Vanderbeck, 2011, Clear Creek ISD. Hypothesis (clean toothpick): The same thing will happen that happened with whole milk, Observations (clean toothpick): Nothing happened. Hypothesis (toothpick with soap): It will push back the coloring. Observations (toothpick with soap): The coloring was pushed back to the edges. Because if we did the soap toothpick it would disrupt the cycle and we would get a different reaction from the regular toothpick. The independent variable is the substance on the toothpick and the type of milk. The constant is the dye. The detergent is used to take stains out of clothes and clean them, in our experiment it made the dye move and dissolve. The bacteria in the dye was attacked by the soap. In other words the soap attacks bacteria.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
