psychosocial behavior of an individual. The current treatment methods are focused on helping the alcoholics discontinue their practice, and this is usually followed up with life training and social support (Leggio & Lee, 2017). Present treatment of alcohol abuse disorder is centered on addressing the multiple factors that might be increasing the risk of an individual to continue drinking or relapse. One of the treatment methods used is detoxification. Detoxification is a method where an individual stops drinking alcohol along with substitution drugs that can preventalcohol withdrawal. Studies, however, reveal that the only way detoxification can be effective is when it is coupled with another treatment program such as psychotherapy of group therapy (Leggio & Lee, 2017). At the same time, some medications have proven to be effective in suppressing the urge to drink, such as Acamprosate and Naltrexone (Saitz, 2018). The present methods, however, are only fully effective when there is social support, and the risk factors are addressed.
