and while he did accept employment in Chicago many years ago, I’ve learned this is a very small world. I plan to continue to call on Larry for professional guidance, as he has and continues to be a very strong, influential leader regardless of the community in which he resides. Professional Resource/Strategy 2 Brett Behan, MSN, RN, CNO, Banner University Medical Center, Tucson Brett is a professional colleague I met through mutual friends. As I prepared to find a preceptor last year, I reached out to him for guidance. He had many ideas, one of which included setting up an interview with a potential PMHNP within his organization. This PMHNP preceptor agreed
7 to take me under his supervision to complete my clinical hours needed. My strategy is to continue to work closely with Brett, Banner University Medical Center in Tucson, AZ, and my PMHNP Preceptor for my continued professional growth, while continuing to network. Professional Resource/Strategy 3 Lindsay Radcliffe, BSN, RN, Walden University PMHNP Student I first met Lindsay several years ago at Aurora Behavioral Hospital. As House Supervisor she, along with many others, helped guide me through navigating the behavioral health system. Lindsay and I share our mutual goal to obtain our PMHNP at Walden University. I believe Lindsay is a resource with whom I can continue to grow and provide mutual benefit as we build our careers in the field of mental health as NP Specialists. ADDITIONAL RESOURCES/STRATEGIES
8 Part 3: Strategies to Promote Academic Integrity and Professional Ethics The Connection Between Academic and Professional Integrity The relationship between academic and professional integrity is significant. The profession of nursing requires rigorous honesty. For 20 years, nursing has been nominated 'the most ethical and honest profession' (Roy Morgan Research, 2014). As healthcare professionals, we need to have knowledge and constantly seek new knowledge regularly. Often times, as in practice, group work is required. Through working as a team while assessing each member’s strengths and weaknesses, nurses are able to simulate real life work within their academic graduate experiences. Through working as a reliable team member in an academic setting, students learn the values of working as a team. Reliability is demonstrated through being present in online discussions, by frequently reading posts from colleagues and regularly acknowl. edging others’ contributions. Reliability is regularly submitting work on time (Bromley, P., 2015). Some tools provided by the University are Grammarly and Safe Assign. Grammarly helps students ensure their work is written with the professional sentence structure. Safe Assign checks the papers for plagiarism. If a paper is written with a high content that is from another source, paraphrasing is the best way to make the work authentic by the student. Through using paraphrasing, the work becomes that of the student. The goal of using all these tools is to provide scholarly work in the words of the student.
