Safety Best Practices Manual First movement of the glideslope indicator. Call, “Glideslope alive.” Confirm and call, “Glideslope alive.” BEFORE LANDING CHECK (PRECISION APPROACH) Landing gear and landing flaps will be selected at or before the final approach fix (FAF). Approach will be stabilized from FAF until landing or missed approach. Task/Initiation Cue PF PNF One dot from glideslope intercept or approaching the final approach fix. Call, “Gear down, Before Landing check.” Select gear down. Call, “Gear selected down.” Monitor and call “Gear down-three green.” Complete Before Landing check. Call, “Before Landing check complete.” Glide slope capture. Call, “Glideslope capture.” Confirm and call, “Glideslope capture.” Set missed approach altitude in altitude alerter. 1000’ above minimum for approach. Call, “1000’ above minimums.” PNF calls, “1000’ above minimums.” Verify altitude. Call, “Check.” Landing clearance. Prior to DH, obtain and confirm cleared to land, call “Cleared to land.” 500’ above minimums. Call, “500’ above minimums.” PNF calls, “500’ above minimums.” Verify altitude. Call, “Check.” 100' above minimum. Call, “Approaching minimums.” PNF calls, “Approaching minimums.” Verify altitude. Call, “Check” Decision height. If the runway environment is in sight, call what you see. E.g. “Approach lights, continue.” Runway in sight. Call, “Runway in sight.” PNF calls, “Runway in sight” OR Decision Height. Call, “Going visual.” Confirm going visual call by stating, “Roger, monitoring instruments.” Monitor flight instruments. If the runway environment is NOT in sight, call, “Minimums, go-around.” PNF calls, “Minimums, go-around.” Call, “Going around.” Execute missed approach procedure. NOTE: If visual contact is lost beyond the MAP, a go-around is to be announced and executed by the PF. BEFORE LANDING CHECK (NON-PRECISION) Task/Initiation Cue PF PNF Approaching the Final Fix.
